The Prime Minister recently announced the agreement reached with seven of the eight states and territories yesterday as historic, and representing “the most significant reform to Australia’s health and hospitals system since the introduction of Medicare”. I’m a real advocate of telemedicine and its potential to transform our health service here in Australia. Look at our aging population. The demand for in-home care is certainly going to escalate. At the same time those agencies providing home care services will be under increasing pressure to improve patient care and efficiency. One of the eye-opening aspects of my new role heading up Health in Telstra’s enterprise and government division is getting thoroughly acquainted with the new technologies and products for the health industry: all now possible because of Next Generation technology. I’ve spent many years of senior executive experience inside the private/public health sectors and pharmaceutical companies and have experienced the perennial debates and to-ing and fro-ing about how to deliver better health results.
Bernadette Gibbons is General Manager for Health at Telstra Enterprise and Government. She has over 25 years of sector experience and is responsible for the company's vision, strategy, market creation initiatives and solution development for the Healthcare segment.
Bernadette was previously the CEO for Central Hospital Supplies, Commercial Director for Schering Plough Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd and at Mayne Group where she was Head of Hospitals, National Integration Manager for Hospitals, and National Procurement Manager for Hospitals. Bernadette holds a Corporate Leadership Diploma, a Diploma of Business and an APMA Graduate Diploma ( DUVic ). She is a qualified nurse and carries a distinction in General Registered Nursing from Sydney University.
