  • BlackBerry® Pearl™ 3G smartphone vs iPhone

Created: 26/05/2010 in Gadget Mad | Comments (0)

Comparing BlackBerry® smartphones to iPhones has become far easier, mainly because BlackBerry smartphones are a personal device used for more than just delivering email in a corporate world.
I’ve talked before about the joy of only having one phone for both work and personal life. It’s simple and it’s neat. The advantage then goes beyond the requirement of keeping a camera or GPS with you with our mobiles including these features.
I’ve been playing with the new BlackBerry® Pearl™...

  • Interactive screens all around us

Created: 11/05/2010 in Gadget Mad | Comments (1)

Touch is fast becoming the standard for interacting with digital content with our phones already in impacted over the past few years. Whilst Windows 7 gives our computers the ability to also interact with us via touch, it’s still locked down to that one screen and requires direct input.
Sony recently announced the Playstation Move controller which differentiates itself from the Nintendo Wii by offering true 1:1 (or close to) tracking of the controllers. This opens the door to allow interaction...

  • Voice control on mobiles

I'm really hoping that a new iPhone model will be announced mid-year, as it usually is. Depending on what exactly this model does i.e if it has multitasking and an amazing camera, will really help me decide what phone I should choose.

The Nexus One (Google's latest and greatest) will hopefully hit Australia soon if at all. The main features I want in a phone is smart voice control / activation as well as of course multitasking, which I've been missing for quite some time now.

  • Outsourcing those personal projects

Do you have personal projects on top of your work commitments?
Having these projects on the side can impact your work quality. Consider outsourcing them.
There are many websites out there that allow you to outsource anything from designing a comic strip to producing a project plan.
I recently completed a large personal project in my spare time. Most of the work involved managing the people I hired to produce my product, which depending on who you hire can be tough. Lucky...

  • Twitter friend or foe? or both?

Created: 17/09/2009 in Gadget Mad | Comments (2)

I've been on the twitter band wagon for a while and still find it's a great tool to keep up to date with all the happenings of the world.
One of the challenges in doing this is taking control of your twitter account so that it doesn't drown in spam which can easily happen. I am regularly 'followed' in twitter by spammers who just want to sell me stuff (legtimate or not) and I have to keep a close eye on this. Most twitter users fall into the trap of using smart twitter services to auto...

  • Getting answers to all of life’s questions

Created: 06/08/2009 in Gadget Mad | Comments (0)

In order to answer a question I usually hit the forums or simply Google it. But then I have to wait for a response and sift through the results. I’m a fan of getting answers fast and have found a handy little application that does just that.
Problem halved is a social networking application for iPhone that allows users from around the globe to post and answer questions, including anything from “Should I by this or that” to “How can I increase my online presence”. I have posted a couple...

  • #2 - Using social networking to manage reminders

Created: 16/06/2009 in Gadget Mad | Comments (1)

Continuing the idea that people are relying on social networking to manage reminders of special events, here’s what happened with my experiment (read original post here
My birthday has come and gone and it turns out my fears were valid. I had a lot of late happy birthday messages come through after people noticed the Happy Birthday messages from the day before. I am pleased to say that...

  • Using social networking to manage reminders

Created: 06/05/2009 in Gadget Mad | Comments (2)

After watching the many “Happy Birthday” and “Congratulations” messages that go around on social networking sites, mainly because everyone gets notification of when their friend’s birthdays and special announcements are, it got me thinking perhaps I should try something.

Personally for my close friends, I have separate calendar reminders for all their birthdays and I have them written on a calendar at home.

It’s a great feature where on the home page of most...

  • Imagine the stress relief with one charger!

Created: 08/04/2009 in Gadget Mad | Comments (0)

As most know, I’m a frantic smart phone user and must have power at all times. If ever I’m going away from home I always ensure I have my own charger or an alternative charger there. Lucky for me most of my family and friends have the same charger as my phone and so I can tap into that rather than bringing my own…which just removes items I have to remember to bring home.

In February this year it was announced that the mobile phone industry wants to introduce a universal charger....

  • Standards in consumer robots

Created: 17/02/2009 in Gadget Mad | Comments (1)

Owning two household robots that help me in my day to day life, I’m starting to notice the needs that many other consumers will become aware of in the future.

It’s a common fact that household robots are becoming more and more popular. I was recently referred to on a forum as one of the first people (that the poster knew of) to have genuine conflict between two house based non-entertainment robots.
I took this as quite a compliment and a small claim to fame!
    Basically...
