The 242 Telstra Conference Centre is one of the preeminent conference facilities within the Melbourne CBD. We provide quality event space and facilities for all types of meetings, presentations and video conferences.

Our excellent facilities and strong commitment to customer service was recognised by the industry in 2009 as the Victoria state winner in the prestigious Meeting & Events Australia Industry Awards.

In early 2011, the Centre was renovated to provide an even better service with new furnishings and improved technical capabilities including state-of-the-art audio visual systems and video conferencing in all rooms.

History

The 242 Conference Centre was built in 1992 as part of Telstra’s corporate headquarters with the aim to provide high quality conferencing facilities to the newly established Telstra Corporation.  

The Telstra Corporate Centre development included the heritage listed Watkins building in which the Conference Centre is now housed,  which gives a historical air of elegance to the modern facilities.

Almost two decades after its foundation, the 242 Conference Centre with a selection of board rooms, conference rooms and the breathtaking Theatrette provides a level of experience and capability that is difficult to match.  Thanks to its unique product offering and the hard-work of the Conference Centre team, the 242 Conference Centre has established itself as one of the preeminent conference facilities in the Melbourne CBD.

Theatrette

The Theatrette is the jewel in the crown of the 242 Conference Centre, unique in the Melbourne CBD as a theatre capable of holding 203 people while still maintaining an intimate atmosphere.

Recently receiving a $1 million dollar upgrade to its AV capabilities, the Theatrette is able to be the central hub for local, national or international meetings through its video conferencing and shared presentation capabilities.

Conference Rooms

Our standard conference rooms, Conference Room 1 and Conference Room 2, provide a space that can hold 20-60 people depending on the layout.
These rooms are frequently used for training sessions and workshops, and are popular for presentations where the presenter likes to move and interact with the audience.

Another feature of Conference Rooms 1 & 2 is that they can be combined to form a single room capable of holding up to 120 people.

Combining the rooms allows presentations to be made to entire business sections, or classroom style activities for large groups.

Board Rooms

Our Board Rooms - Conference Rooms 3 & 4 - are our most elegant meetings rooms.  With heritage-listed views onto Exhibition Street, these rooms are capable of hosting 6 - 12 people provide a powerful environment for important meetings with external clients.

Paul has over 25 years experience in the hospitality and services industry.  Since taking the role of Conference Centre Coordinator in November 2006, he has brought a new standard of service to the conference facility. Please feel free to contact him with any of your conferencing enquiries.

Rates

Room rental is calculated on an hourly basis with a minimum 2 hour booking. Note: All rooms are charged with a minimum of a 2-hour booking.

Terms & Conditions

Tentative Booking: 
Confirmation of tentative bookings must be made within 14 days of the conference commencing unless otherwise specified. If confirmation is not received, management reserves the right to cancel the booking and re-allocate the space to other clients.

Confirmation of the Booking:
Confirmation of the booking is made upon the receipt of the completed Registration & Equipment forms by the Conference Centre Co-ordinator within the specified time.

Guaranteed Numbers: 
A guaranteed number of guests attending is required in writing at least 48 hours prior to the event. Should there be an increase in the number of guests inside the 48 hours, management cannot guarantee that the room setup/facilities will be able to cater for the increased numbers.

Cancellation: 
Cancellations will incur the following charges: 5 days working days notice or more - No penalty charge; 4 days working notice - 50% of room hire; 3 working days notice or less - 100% of room hire. Management reserves the right to charge and administration fee for cancelled bookings.

Security: 
Management does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to any person, equipment or merchandise left on the premises prior to, during or after the function.

The Company/Association named on the Registration forms shall indemnify the Telstra Centre Owners and Managers in relation to any such loss or damage.

Room Allocation: 
Management reserves the right to assign another room for any function, in the event the room originally designated for such a function is not available or is inappropriate for any reason.

Charges: 
All charges are based on current rates as at the date of printing and are subject to change without notice. Please note that payment must be made within 30 days of the invoice date.

Please note: Access to the building is from the hours 07:00-19:00 Monday-Friday (excluding public holidays). To arrange after-hours access, please contact Conference Centre Management 48 hours prior to your event.
